The Yokohama Bay Stars met with Fukudome on Thursday.

"It would have been nice if we could have announced something.  But it is not like [Fukudome] said no to us.  We have not given up," said GM Shigeru Takada.

He continued, "We have not told him anything and we are still not at the stage to negotiate.  I think it will take time. ... He still probably has a desire [to play in the US].  He needs to make a decision, but nothing will probably happen until after [the Winter Meetings]."

The Bay Stars may have offered Fukudome a two-year deal worth 300 million yen, plus performance bonuses that could push the overall value of contract to around 400 million yen.

Chunichi Dragons are still interested in Fukudome, but do not appear to be in any sort of rush to get in touch with him.

"We can probably reach out to him at some point soon, but I am sure his agent will contact us as well," said head of baseball operations Takashi Ide.
