INF/base-running coach Nobuhiro Takashiro spoke to reporters on Sunday and said Sho Nakata (Nippon Ham) was an interesting option to bat fifth, behind Shinnosuke Abe (Yomiuri).

"It might be interesting to bat Nakata, who is coming back from an injury, fifth," said Takashiro.

He added, "The manager has mentioned putting together a line-up that goes back-and-forth (righty-lefty). ... I think it might be best to bat players in slots they are used to, otherwise they might think too much and put themselves in situations where they cannot hit pitches they normally can."

Other candidates to bat fifth include Seiichi Uchikawa (Softbank), Nobuhiro Matsuda (Softbank), and Shuichi Murata (Yomiuri).

Katsuya Nomura feels Samurai Japan is doomed from the start because the manager used to be an outfielder.

"There are no well-known managers that used to be outfielders.  Former catchers are the best," said Nomura.

He continued, "I may be a bit bitter, but asides from whether or not it would happen, I thought my name could at least be mentioned [as a candidate]."

And added, "The leader needs to be stronger.  He can not be sitting at the top of some building in Ginza looking blanking off into the distance.  Why does he not come out?  I could do better than that kind of commissioner."
