Yakult Swallows

Ryohei Kawamoto plans to spend the day training with marathon runner Erick Wainaina on Wednesday.  Kawamoto will likely get some playing time in the outfield next season and is hoping to get some tips on running from Wainaina.  He is also trying to drop four to five more kilograms this winter (he currently weight ninety kilograms).   Source: Sanspo 12/11/2012, Sponichi 12/11/2012

Yomiuri Giants

The Hanshin Tigers are planning to use WBC baseballs during a spring camp practice game against the Nippon Ham Fighters.  The game will be scheduled some time around February 10.  Source: Sports Hochi Osaka 12/11/2012

The media learned that Yutaka Wada was in the US.  He also apparently checked out the Winter Leagues in Puerto Rico.   Wada reportedly traveled overseas to observe and learn, but may have been evaluating potential talent (closer, clean-up hitter) as well.  Source: Nikkan Sports 12/11/2012

According to Sanspo, Wada was in the US for about a week and likely returned today.  During his stay, he may have visited the Altanta Braves and gotten a tour of Turner Field.  He most likely did not attend the Winter Meetings in Nashville.  Source: Sanspo 12/11/2012

The Tigers could end up taking fewer pitchers to Okinawa spring camp next year (from the twenty-two they carried this year, to twenty or less) in order to improve the quality of the practices and to make sure everyone is getting enough work.  Competition for starting positions, like rotation spots, could still take place between Okinawa and Kochi camps.  Source: Daily Sports 12/11/2012

Kura Sushi is interested in 1st round draft pick Shintaro Fujinami as a possible spokesperson for their chain of kaiten sushi restaurants at some point.  The connection: Kura Sushi is based out of Sakai, Osaka, which is where Fujinami is from; Fujinami also likes salmon and the salmon sushi is popular at Kura Sushi.  Source: Nikkan Sports 12/11/2012

Team owner Hajime Matsuda is scheduled to visit Carp Academy in the Dominican Republic.  He will leave on the 17th and spend about ten days checking on operations to see if there are any problems or to see if anything can be done to improve conditions.  Source: Sports Hochi Osaka 12/11/2012
