An unofficial fan club, Kansai Kachi Tora Kai, sold tickets to a party that promised special appearances by Tomoaki Kanemoto, the Arai brothers, Shinobu Fukuhara, Shunsuke Fujikawa, and Hiroki Uemoto. The Hanshin Tigers contacted police after they found that none of the players were scheduled to attend the event and posted a notification about the party on Wednesday. They followed up with an announcement today stating that they sent the fan club a warning notice (unauthorized use of team logo, player photos) that also included a note that the team would not hesitate to file charges with the authorities (if necessary).
Sponichi has posted an interview with a fan club official:
The event has been canceled.
We were moving forward with discussions to hold the event. We contacted players directly, but I cannot talk about the specifics. We were planning to hold the event.
Why cancel all of a sudden?
The team website said we should refrain and we did not want things to escalate any further.
Was the list of players a lie?
We are looking into it right now. It was going to be a proper event. Otherwise we would not have created fliers or advertised it like we did. That never would have happened.
Has the team contacted you?
No, they have not. People that purchased tickets contacted us about the notice on the team website and that is how we found out. We are wondering why this is happening. We do not know why this happened. We are surprised.
Did you contact the players directly?
I am not sure... I can not comment on that. This will be discussed internally. We will look into why this happened.
