The media learned today that a forty-four-year-old teacher was dismissed as manager of the Rokko Island High School baseball team in April after he punished a player by getting on top of him. The player stopped attending school after the incident. The board of education is considering a punishment for the teacher.
According to the high school, a first-year student got into trouble with another player on the team in November 2011. The manager met with each student individually. He lost his temper when speaking to the first-year student and grabbed him by the collar. When the student fell to the floor, he jumped on top and began choking him.
The teacher apologized to school officials, the student, and the student's caregiver (likely parents). The student was apparently in shock after the incident and has stopped attending school.
The teacher is in charge of physical education and a director of student counseling.
