1st round draft pick Shintaro Fujinami worked out at the Osaka Toin grounds on Saturday.  He also spoke to reporters and said he did not think he would be facing Nippon Ham 1st round draft pick Shohei Otani when the two teams meet on February 23.

"Personally, I do not think it will happen," said Fujinami.  "I do not want to worry about those things.  I just have to focus on what I need to do."

Sports Hochi Osaka adds that GM Katsuhiro Nakamura told reporters on Saturday the team plans to speak to Fukudome over the next few days.

"We will speak to [Fukudome's] agent [over the phone].  We can not change the base deal, but we can talk about the incentives," said Nakamura.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Daisuke Miura has his sights set on 200 innings next season.  Miura will turn thirty-nine on the 25th.  No pitcher, since the start of the two-league system, has managed to toss 200 innings in the year they turned forty.  One pitcher, Tadashi Wakabayashi, accomplished it twice (326.1 in 1948 and 271 in 1949) before the two-league system.  Since the start of the two-league system, only six pitchers have managed to toss enough innings to qualify for a title during or after the year they turned forty.  The most, at 179.2 innings, was recorded by Choji Murata in 1989.   Source: Sponichi 12/16/2012
