Kiyoshi Nakahata turned fifty-nine on January 6.
Nakahata appeared in public on Monday for the first time since his wife's memorial services on December 5, 2012. During a new year speech at the team offices, he said, "I want to focus on winning. I want the team to come together as one. I will cut players that get in the way of this. ... I will have no choice but to cut players that think of themselves. The moment I see that, without even a discussion, I will cut that player on the spot. ... Even a player like [Alex] Ramirez, if he becomes a negative, will have to be cut."
