Softbank Hawks, Yokohama Bay Stars interested in Vicente Padilla

The Softbank Hawks and Yokohama Bay Stars are reportedly both interested in thirty-five-year-old right-handed pitcher Vicente Padilla. Both teams see Padilla as a starter. The Bay Stars may be preparing an offer with a salary over 200 million yen.
Based on the reports, Yokohama appears to be in the lead.

I wonder what NPB teams are thinking sometimes. Padilla hasn’t been an effective starter since 2008, is 35 years old and has had various clubhouse run-ins with teammates.
Why the heck would you invest money and a valuable foreign player slot on this guy?
Since the caliber is different, maybe he would be ok starting… He would be a pretty good reliever (costly). As for the personality, he would probably be a head case.
I was reading the opinions of Cubs fans on Kosuke Fukudome and was wondering if Hanshin will really thrive with him and his near 5 M contract. Plus you add Nishioka bad MLB experience and the catcher from Orix (who was at Ni-gun most of last year)… I really wonder if they’ll finish higher than 4th?
Softbank likes to (and can afford to) throw huge bundles of yen at anyone who could possibly help them at all. Yomiuri west, basically.
Yokohama is just hoping anyone with a bit of a name will come to their team.
Softbank has a well-constructed team, at least. I don’t think a clubhouse cancer would hurt them too much.
You’d think Softbank would’ve learned from last year’s Penny debacle.
Ha, Mahara goes to Orix and Softbank gets Terahara. Although Mahara’s health is in question, Terahara is not good at staying healthy either.
