From MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez:

Veteran right-hander Vicente Padilla, who went 4-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 56 relief appearances with the Red Sox last season, has signed a one-year, $3.25 million deal with Japan's SoftBank Hawks, according to an industry source.

All the major sources here in Japan (Sponichi, Nikkan Sports, Daily Sports, Sanspo) are quoting the MLB article above.

between this and the Brad Penny signing, the Hawks could have had Tony Blanco who is tailor-made for a DH slot…but that would mean Pena would have to sit. But Pena could have been traded. Padilla is pretty much a guaranteed bust.
