Because of the WBC, the Giants will have eight open Ichi-gun slots partway through spring camp. That should give a fair number of Ni-gun players an opportunity to play in front of the Ichi-gun coaching staff. Source: Sanspo 1/18/2013

Typical workout days for players training in Guam:
Utsumi group: Day begins at 8:30am. Players ride a bus partway to Paseo Stadium, then run the remaining two kilometers. Upon arriving at the stadium, they begin trunk strengthening exercises, in addition to throwing one kilogram balls into the ground. After that, they play catch and take grounders. Lower body workouts follow: changes each day, but includes a lot of running, like twenty 200-meter dashes or sixteen 150-meter dashes. After lunch, weight training and running on the beach.
Abe group: Golf in the morning for warm-ups. Then training at Paseo Stadium in the afternoon. Begin with lower body workouts, like jump-roping and running. Followed by fielding and batting practice. Then some circuit training. After that, players are on their own: extra batting practice, weight training.

Team owner Kojiro Shiraishi is interested in setting up a retirement/farewell game for Hideki Matsui. Matsui was supposed to return to Japan in January, but may have decided to wait until after his wife gives birth to their first child in March. Source: Nikkan Sports 1/18/2013

When you say Matsui is returning to japan, is he moving back to Japan? My understanding was that he was perfectly happy in New York.
Yeah, this isn’t to move back, just to visit.
He could end up moving back at some point, if he wants to pursue a coaching career in Japan (he could of course keep his home in NY as a second home).
