According to Sanspo, Yao-Hsun Yang starting talking about wanting to play in the Majors after hiring Scott Boras to be his agent. The Softbank Hawks may have offered Yang fifty million yen for the 2013 season (up from eleven million in 2012), but the team does not appear to be any closer to finalizing a deal.

Sponichi provides a little more insight... The problems began in mid-January when Yang fired his agent and hired Scott Boras. He then demanded that the Hawks allow him the right to become a free agent after the 2013 season (Wei-Ying Chen used a similar tactic in 2011).
Since Yang is currently on the Hawks' reserved list, he can not sign with another team (includes the Majors).
A number of things could happen, including, but not limited to:
- Yang decides to stay with the Hawks
- Yang gets the Hawks to cave and signs a one-year deal and becomes a free agent after the 2013 season
- the Hawks trade Yang
- retirement (worst case scenario)
