Koji Yamamoto post-game press conference, via Nikkan Sports:

On looking back at the first game.

It is just as you see.  We were shut out.  I told the players I was willing to let this game slide, but would not in the future.  I think things with the offense will be difficult.  I do not think it is capable of exploding for a lot of runs.  That means the pitchers have to step up.]

They gave up seven runs.

[Masahiro] Tanaka is still adjusting.  I think he will get better.  It was also the first game, so there was some tension.  Kenta Maeda was Kenta Maeda and I think he showed us some hope.  I thought things would be worse for him, but he pitched well considering the circumstances.  I think he will get better too.

[Atsushi] Nomi pitched well.

He showed what he is capable of.  He had a good game.

Regarding the offense.

We had one scoring opportunity.  This is something that can happen during the actual tournament.

What needs to be addressed?

The pitching staff.  Then the offense.  We need to make it a line.

Any positive takeaways from the game?

Nomi and [Toshiya] Sugiuchi pitched well.

On tomorrow's game against Seibu.

I am sure the position players realize they can not let things remain this way.  I want them to be play at their own levels and keep things moving forward.
