Eiichi Koyano (returning from right elbow surgery in November 2012) was the starting DH in Sunday's intra-squad game.  He flied out to second in his one at bat (first pitch).

Koyano will likely rejoin the Ichi-gun group when the Ni-gun camp in Kunigami, Okinawa ends on the 22nd.  He took fielding practice at first during pre-game workouts on Sunday.  Assuming no setbacks, he could begin practicing at third some time around mid-March.  It is feasible that he will be ready for the start of opening day.

Hideki Kuriyama was please with 1st round draft pick Shohei Otani's performance on Sunday (2-for-4) but tempered his reaction to the media.

"Nothing special.  I have seen [Otani] when he is on and the pitch he hit [in his second at bat] would have hit the fence.  I think he is capable of much more," said Kuriyama.

He also said, "No players will be promoted this time around."
