Masahiro Tanaka could toss up to three bullpen sessions before and three bullpen sessions after he starts a practice game against Australia on the 23rd.  That would mean throwing off a mound up to seven times over the ten days leading up to his Game 1 WBC start against Brazil.

Kenta Maeda is scheduled to start a practice game against Australia on the 24th.  He will then most likely go on to start Game 2 of the WBC (vs China, March 3).

Second base is a toss-up between Kazuo Matsui and Takashi Toritani.

"I will give both players equal opportunities at second.  They will each start two games.  I would like to decide on the starter before the start of the tournament," said Koji Yamamoto.

Outfielders have apparently been told not to be aggressive in their throws to bases from the outfield.

"We have told outfielders they should not throw the ball long distances.  Two or three hops to the destination is fine.  We are looking for accuracy.  We do not want to see balls slipping out of hands," said OF/base-running coach Koichi Ogata.

Two advance scouts were sent to Taiwan on Monday to check on Cuba.  They will watch three games and report back on the 21st with footage.

Japan will play night games against Hanshin (26th at Kyocera Dome) and Yomiuri (28th at YafuOku Dome).  Brazil will play day games against Orix (26th) and Softbank (28th).  Coaches and scouts will likely attend both games played by Brazil.

WBC Cuba played a practice game against WBC Australia on Tuesday and won, 5-3.

WBC Taiwan was caught trying to sneak scouts into a WBC Korea practice game on Tuesday.

The media learned on Tuesday that Yao-Hsun Yang (WBC Taiwan) is having problems with tightness in his shoulder.  Yang appeared in a practice game against Cuba on the 18th but left after facing just one batter (precautionary move).
