Yomiuri Giants

The Giants closed out spring camp today.  They will head to Fukuoka on Wednesday and play a practice game against Samurai Japan on the 28th.

The Giants committed seven errors in their practice game against LG (KBO) on Monday.  The last time they committed seven errors in one game: July 14, 1940 vs Hanshin.

Chunichi Dragons

Masahiro Araki missed some time with the flu.  He worked out for about two hours on the team's day off on Tuesday and is hoping to play in a practice game against SK (KBO) on Wednesday.

Brad Bergesen missed workouts today with gastroenteritis.  Matt Clark ended his day early with nausea and stomach pains.  The two will return once they are feeling better.

The Dragons will wear red uniforms this season for the first time in franchise history.  The red alternate uniforms are also first alternates used by the team since 1998.

Bullpen catcher Masanao Ebana found his uniform hoisted up on the flagpole above the scoreboard at Urasoe Stadium today.

Keisuke Imai felt pain in his left knee during workouts on Monday and will undergo an examination on Wednesday.

Eishin Soyogi, Jun Hirose, and Masato Akamatsu were all diagnosed with the flu.

Hanshin Tigers

Kazuya Tsutsui threw sixty-three pitches in the bullpen today.  He is scheduled to start and toss one inning in a practice game against a Shikoku Island League plus mixed team on Wednesday.

Batting coach Jitsuo Mizutani is thinking about giving Matt Murton a look as a clean-up hitter during the exhibition game season.

Yutaka Wada has expressed concerns about the pitching staff to the front office -- he wants the team to find another arm, one that can start and relieve.  Pitchers have allowed forty-four runs in seven pre-season practice games (not including intra-squad).

1st round draft pick Shintaro Fujinami is slated to start a practice game against Orix at Aki Stadium on March 2.  He is expected to toss about two innings.

According to Nikkan Sports, Fujinami could start a practice game against either Orix at Aki Stadium on March 2 or a practice game against Seibu at Haruno Stadium on March 3.  Of the two, the start on March 3 seems more likely.

Akihito Fujii's Sanspo Tigers' Promise: to throw out Hayato Sakamoto (Yomiuri), Sho Aranami (Yokohama), Eishin Soyogi (Hiroshima), Yohei Oshima (Chunichi), and Lastings Milledge (Yakult) at least once each this year.

If Fujii makes good on the promise, Sanspo will pay for a full facial at an upscale beauty salon.  If he fails, he will have to work as a Sanspo reporter for one day.

Kai-Wen Cheng was added to the seventy-man roster today.  His number will change from 117 to 62.

Kiyoshi Nakahata is interested in the possibility of batting Nyjer Morgan second and Yoshitomo Tsutsugo third.  Tony Blanco, Alex Ramirez, and Hitoshi Tamura would then bat fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Until then, it will likely be Morgan three and Tsutsugo six.
