The team spokesperson released the following prepared statement from Yamamoto today:

As you can see from the first two games, it is not easy winning international games.  And in that, we managed to secure a spot in the 2nd Round today.  There are still many difficult games ahead of us.  I want to use our team cohesion as a strength as we carefully focus on each game, one at a time.  The only thing to do is to move forward toward our goal, with every member on the team doing their absolute best.

Katsuya Nomura dropped the following comments about the WBC during a press conference earlier today:

On the first two games...

I watched the two games but they really irritated me.  Did it not irritate you (speaking to the media)?  I do not know, I just wish they could [play in a way that would] make the games a little smoother so that I can watch without worrying.

On Tanaka lasting just two innings...

Awful.  But he is usually bad in early spring.  He should not have been replaced.  I would not have started him in Game 1.  That is something you can tell just by watching a bullpen.  They probably can not tell because it is [pitching coach Osamu] Higashio.  That guy can not see anything.
