Yomiuri Giants

1st round draft pick Tomoyuki Sugano threw nothing but fastballs and curves during bullpen sessions on the 6th (fifty-six pitches) and 7th (fifty-one pitches).  He is scheduled to start an exhibition game against Hanshin at Koshien on Sunday.

Hanshin Tigers

The media learned on Friday that Yasutomo Kubo has not been pitching in games because he is not feeling well (not injury related).  Kubo has not pitched since a practice game against Samurai Japan on February 27.  He is expected to pitch in a game soon.

Minoru Iwata worked on his lower body during the off-season and made some adjustments to how he uses his legs when he throws the ball, particularly with how he lands his leg.

Iwata's first regular season start could come against Yakult at Jingu on July 31.

Brooks Conrad's wife and two kids arrived in Japan from Arizona on Friday.  He wanted to meet his family at the airport and received consideration from the team -- they batted him lead-off during an exhibition game against Lotte on the same day so that he could get two trips to the plate before heading to the airport.

Hojo went 1-for-3 in a Kyoiku League game against Chunichi on Friday.  Through eight pre-season games (as of Friday), he is 4-for-28 with one RBI.

Kazuya Tsutsui could not pitch through a scheduled two-inning stint during a Kyoiku League game against Chunichi on Friday because of tightness in his left shoulder.  The team will wait to see how he is feeling over the next couple of days before deciding what steps to take next.  The tightness is in the same area he felt pain in before.
