Yomiuri Giants

Scott Mathieson threw forty-four pitches in the bullpen at Giants Stadium today.  He returned to Japan on the 13th and started workouts on the 14th.  He is scheduled to pitch in Sunday's exhibition game against Lotte.

Chunichi Dragons

Kei Nomoto, Kyohei Iwasaki, and Naomichi Donoue were sent to Ni-gun today because there were only nine available position players.  The flu has been sweeping through the organization.  Morimichi Takagi started things off when he was diagnosed with it on January 9.  Since then, fourteen other people (coaches, players, staff) have caught the flu.

Takahiro Kawasaki was diagnosed with the flu.  He is the eleventh person in the organization to catch the flu this month.

Yakult Swallows

Keizo Kawashima (coming back from right elbow surgeries in 2010 and 2011) was called up to Ichi-gun today.  Shingo Kawabata (left ankle injury from last fall) still needs more time and will remain at Ni-gun until he is 100%.

Ko Shimozuru was examined at a hospital on Thursday and diagnosed with an injury in his adductor longus muscle.  There is currently no timetable on his return.  He will be re-evaluated in a few days.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Kentaro Takasaki was limited to just one inning of work in today's exhibition game against Hanshin because he took a batted ball off his left calf.  He was considered the favorite to get the opening day start, but could be shifted back a few days if he is not able to run.
