Yomiuri Giants

Dennis Houlton, Jose Lopez and John Bowker will likely make the opening day roster.   Scott Mathieson and Manny Acosta will likely compete for the last spot.

Michihiro Ogasawara played in a Ni-gun game against Yakult today.  He was the starting DH and batted fifth.  He went 0-for-2: strikeout looking with a runner on second and two out in the 1st; flied out to left with a runner on first and no out in the 4th; and was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 6th.

Ogasawara could rejoin the Ichi-gun team as early as the 20th or as late as the 23rd or 24th.

The Chunichi Dragons lost their game against Yakult today and are now guaranteed a losing record during the exhibition season.  They also have not been able to win a single exhibition game against CL teams.

The Dragons do not plan on promoting/demoting players any time soon because they are worried about the flu, particularly with the way it has spread at Ni-gun.

Eishin Soyogi was called up on Friday.  He had right leg surgery in October last year and was diagnosed with the flu last month.

Takahiro Arai went 3-for-7 during situational batting practice on Friday.  The three hits came off 5th round draft pick Kazuyuki Kaneda.

Arai played in a Kyoiku League game against Chunichi today.  He started at first and batted clean-up.  He went 2-for-3: hit a triple with runners on first and second and one out in the 1st; struck out swinging in the 3rd; led off the 6th with a double.

Yuya Ando pitched in a Kyoiku League game against Chunichi on Friday.  He entered the game in the 7th and retired the side in order (ground out to second, fly out to third, ground out to first).  He topped out at 143km/h.  Ando's preparation for the season was slowed down when he developed tightness in his left hamstring during spring camp in February.  He is scheduled to pitch another inning in relief on Sunday.

Ryo Watanabe skipped his turn during situational batting practice on Friday with discomfort in his right shoulder.  He could be sent to the hospital for an examination if his condition does not improve.

Kisho Kagami was demoted today and will report to Ni-gun on Sunday.  Kagami gave up six runs on eight hits over four innings of work during an exhibition game against Softbank today.
