Yomiuri Giants

Hisayoshi Chono will likely return to the lead-off spot with Hayato Sakamoto batting third.  Tatsunori Hara knows Shinnosuke Abe is capable of batting clean-up, but may shift him elsewhere in the line-up because he is worried about his condition after playing in the WBC and does not want to apply to much pressure on him.  Yoshinobu TakahashiShuichi Murata, and Jose Lopez are among candidates to bat fourth.

Tetsuya Utsumi, Toshiya Sugiuchi, Tetsuya Yamaguchi, and Hirokazu Sawamura all tossed bullpen sessions on Thursday.  Utsumi threw 102 pitches.

Utsumi, Yamaguchi, and Sawamura could pitch in exhibition games against Rakuten on the 23rd and 24th.  Sugiuchi will probably skip the game and instead toss bullpens.

Fred Lewis was in the starting line-up for today's exhibition game against Softbank (left field, batting fifth), but was a last minute scratch because of discomfort in his right arm.  A fungo bat apparently hit Lewis in the arm while he was goofing around with Ichi-gun INF/base-running coach Takuro Ishii during pre-game practices.  He turned down requests for a post-game interview.
