NPB commissioner Ryozo Kato spoke to the media on Tuesday and addressed at least two issues.
- The current standard baseball needs to be reviewed. The number of countries using the baseball has reportedly increased (at amateur international tournaments and in Cuba). The current ball may require changes and should not be thought of as finalized.
- Koji Yamamoto's contract as manager of Samurai Japan will be allowed to expire at the end of the month. The NPB hopes they can continue to rely on the support of all three past WBC managers. Regarding the next manager of Samurai Japan, personnel decisions will not be made until a schedule has been decided.
