Yomiuri Giants

Ryosuke Miyaguni could become the first pitcher in franchise history to win an opening day game in his twenties since Sadao Kondo in 1946.

At twenty years and eleven months, he will be the second youngest player in franchise history to start an opening day game.  The other, at twenty years and zero months, is Masumi Kuwata.

Chunichi Dragons

This will be Motonobu Tanishige's twenty-fifth season.  He has played in twenty-three of the past twenty-five opening day games (he did not play in 1989 and 1993) and has made the starting line-up in twenty straight (twenty-two in all).

Hanshin Tigers

Randy Messenger will be the third foreign pitcher in franchise history, first since Matt Keough in 1987, to get an opening day start.  If he wins, he will be the first foreign pitcher in franchise history to do so since Gene Bacque in 1965.
