Yomiuri Giants

1st round draft pick Tomoyuki Sugano became the fifth first-year Giant to make his first career start within his team's first two games of the season since the start of the two-league format.  The other four: Yoshiaki Ito (opening day, 1959), Ritsuo Horimoto (second game, 1960), Kunio Jonouchi (opening day, 1962), and Isao Shibata (second game, 1962).  Sugano and Horiuchi are the only two that managed to pitch seven or more innings.

Taishi Ota entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 11th inning of Saturday's game and was picked off at second base to end the inning.  He worked on his move back to the base during workouts today.

Chunichi Dragons

The Dragons lost two in a row to start their season (Friday and Saturday) for the first time since 2002.

Hanshin Tigers

1st round draft pick Shintaro Fujinami became the first first-year player drafted out of high school to make his first career start within his team's first three games of the season.  The previous record of four was held by Toshiaki Moriyasu in 1966, Mikio Kudo in 1979, Daisuke Matsuzaka in 1999, and Hideaki Wakui in 2005.

Tomoaki Kanemoto filed a defamation lawsuit against Shinchosha on the 29th and is seeking 100 million yen in damages and a public apology.  Shinchosha published an article in Shukan Shincho in August 2011 that claimed Kanemoto tried to confine/blackmail someone in the past and most recently ran an article that linked him to organized crime.

Yokohama Bay Stars

The Bay Stars started their season off with their second straight victory on Saturday.  That was a first since 2000.  Had they won their game today, it would have been their first three-game winning streak to start a season since 1964.
