Yomiuri Giants

The Giants will be holding a retirement ceremony for Hideki Matsui on May 5 (vs Hiroshima at Tokyo Dome).  Shigeo Nagashima will be a special guest.  The two will participate in the ceremonial first pitch.

The government is planning to present Nagashima and Matsui with the People's Honor Award for their contributions to baseball.

Shinnosuke Abe recorded his twelfth walk-off hit on Sunday.  That is good for an eighth place tie on the NPB All-time list, a fourth place tie on the CL All-time list, and a third placed tie on the franchise list (behind Sadaharu Oh's fifteen, Nagashima's fourteen, and tied with Tatsunori Hara).

Hiroshima Carp

Kenta Maeda told reporters after Sunday's loss to the Yomiuri Giants that his body needed to get re-adjusted to pitching more than five innings and that his slider started getting too much of the plate beginning in the 6th inning.

Hanshin Tigers

The last time the Tigers were shutout two games in a row during their opening series was in 1988 (vs Hiroshima at Hiroshima, April 8 and 9).

The TV rating for the opening day game, broadcast by Kansai TV, was 13.4%.  The third game, carried by Yomiuri TV partway through, was 12.6%.

Yokohama Bay Stars

The Bay Stars introduced another new mascot to the media today: DB. Kirara.

"She will be a dancing mascot.  Kirara will do a sexy dance while Starman roles around next to her.  Unrequited love for Starman," explained a team official.
