Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito played catch at a distance of about forty to fifty meters during workouts on Tuesday.  The team is still not sure when he will be able to toss his first real bullpen session.

Hideki Kuriyama is not sure if 1st round draft pick Shohei Otani needed to throw seventy-five pitches in the bullpen on March 31.  He plans to sit down with Otani and the coaches to determine how much he really needs to do.

Otani could end up tossing fewer bullpen sessions so that he can spend more time working out as a hitter/position player.  The coaches may also set exclusive pitcher workout days where he is allowed to throw close to 100 pitches and only does training geared for pitchers.

Softbank Hawks

Wily Mo Pena showed up at the stadium with his hair shaved -- he cut it himself at the team hotel on Tuesday night.

Seibu Lions

Tatsuyuki Uemoto was taken off the active roster today after he took a batted ball off his left eye during pre-game fielding practice on Tuesday.  He is scheduled for a complete evaluation on Thursday.

Rakuten Eagles

Masahiro Tanaka was throwing one to two curves a game last season.  For his start on Tuesday, eleven of the eighty-nine pitches he threw were curves.

Tanaka has recorded victories in his first outings of the year three times now (2009, 2011, 2013).  In 2009, he ended up going 15-6 and in 2011, 19-5.

Tanaka is 13-3 against Orix over his career.  He is an undefeated 8-0 against them at Kleenex Stadium.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Tomohisa Otani's next start will likely be pushed back from today to the 5th against Rakuten.

Yoshihisa Naruse played catch today for the first time since he was taken off the active roster with a contusion on his right leg.  He is scheduled to toss a bullpen with a standing catcher on the 5th.  Depending on how things go from there, he could return to the active roster in time for a start against Softbank on the 12th or 13th.

Daily Sports has a slightly different take: Naruse could toss a full bullpen on the 7th and start an Ichi-gun game as early as the 9th against Seibu.

Orix Buffaloes

Aarom Baldiris tweaked his right leg while running from first to third in the 9th inning of Tuesday's game against Rakuten and was replaced by a pinch-runner.  There is concern that he may have suffered a muscle strain.  However, it does not appear to be serious -- while he does feels some tightness, he does not feel pain and does not have any problem swinging the bat.  Whether he is able to return to the line-up on Thursday will depend on how well he can run.
