Yomiuri Giants

Hayato Sakamoto hit a double with the bases loaded in the 5th inning of last night's game against Yokohama.  While he has hit home runs with the bases juiced (four over his career), it was the first time he recorded an extra base hit with the bases loaded that scored all three runners.

The Giants are 3-0-1.  The last time they started the season with three victories was back in 1998.

2nd round draft pick Yasuhiro Ogawa became the thirteenth rookie pitcher in franchise history to record a victory in his first Ichi-gun appearance (first since Yuki Shichijo on June 28, 2011 vs Yomiuri).  He is also the fourth straight rookie to record a victory in his first Ichi-gun appearance: Masato Nakazawa in 2010, Kentaro Kyuko and Shichijo in 2011, Ogawa in 2013.

Hanshin Tigers

Brooks Conrad had triple play in the corner of his mind when a line drive came his way with runners on first and second and no out in the 7th inning of Wednesday's game against Chunichi.  Conrad gloved the ball, but it popped out of his glove.  He felt he had possession of it and only dropped it when transferring the ball to his throwing hand, but the umpire saw things differently and ruled no catch.

Conrad also committed a throwing error in the 5th.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka missed Wednesday's game with tightness in his lower back.  His status for today will depend on how he is feeling.
