Nippon Ham Fighters

Hiroshi Kisanuki handed out about 4,000 autographed baseball cards last season.  The Buffaloes and Giants give their players about 1,000 cards at the start of the season.  Since the Fighters do not, Kisanuki ordered a batch of 1,000 before the start of this season.  He spends about ten minutes every day signing about fifty.  He is hoping to hand out around 5,000 cards this season.

Softbank Hawks

Pitching coach Ikuo Takayama was upset at how Vicente Padilla did not try to conserve his energy in the earlier innings on Thursday -- he topped out at 146km/h in the 1st inning and started to lose steam in the 3rd, with his fastball dropping to the high 130s to low 140s.  Of the thirty-eight pitches he threw during the first two frames, thirty-four were fastballs.

"[Padilla] has been a reliever the last two years.  The way he is pitching right now, he will only last one or two innings.  He is not going to get the job done by only throwing pitches he wants to.  He needs to be willing to listen [to suggestions] a little more," said Takayama.
