Yomiuri Giants

Of the four home runs John Bowker has hit over his NPB career, three have come against Yokohama.

Jose Lopez is the third foreign player in franchise history to start the season with a five or more game hitting streak.  The other two: Reggie Smith with a five-game hitting streak in 1983 and Phil Bradley with a six-game hitting streak in 1991.

Lopez and Bowker, through Thursday, are a combined 12-for-32 with three home runs and twelve RBI.

Chunichi Dragons

The Dragons let Daniel Cabrera do his own thing before his start on Thursday -- he began his preparations about an hour before the start of the game, instead of with the rest of the team.

Hiroshima Carp

The Carp started their season with four-game losing streak and ended it with a shutout victory on Thursday.  They ended a similar four-game losing streak to start the 1956 season with a shutout victory on March 25.

Hanshin Tigers

Ryo Watanabe faced nine hitters during situational batting practice on Thursday.  He threw thirty-three pitches and allowed two hits.  This was his first BP outing since spring camp in February.  Depending on how he is feeling (coming back from right shoulder rightness), he could get some work in relief during a Ni-gun road trip against Softbank next week (April 9-11).

For the first time since 1948, the Tigers have started a season with zero home runs through its first six games.

The franchise high, since the start of the two leagues, was five games in 1988.  Akinobu Mayumi ended the drought with two home runs in the sixth game of the season (April 15, 1988).
