A Shohei Otani fan club in Oshu, Iwate could be established after the current season.  Oshu is Otani's hometown.

Otani threw thirty-four pitches in the bullpen before tonight's game against Rakuten.  He also made the starting line-up despite the session, a first this year.

Softbank Hawks

Ni-gun game against Hanshin today:

Akihiro Yanase enterd the game in the 7th and tossed a shutout inning in relief.  He did allow one hit and one walk.  This was his first appearance of the year (working his way from right shoulder pain).  Source: Nikkan Sports 4/9/2013 ... Chiba Lotte Marines

Yuji Nishino is the eighth pitcher that began their career as an Ikusei player to start an Ichi-gun game, first since Akira Hiho (Softbank) in 2012.  He is also the fourth pitcher that began their career as an Ikusei player to record an Ichi-gun victory as a starter, first since Yuki Kuniyoshi (Yokohama) in 2011.  He is the first pitcher that began their career as an Ikusei player to record an Ichi-gun victory in their first start.

On Monday, Josh Whiltesell became the second player to hit home runs in three consecutive at bats since the introduction of the new standard baseball.  The other: Nick Stavinoha for Hiroshima on May 5, 2012 vs Hanshin.

The last PL player to go yard in three straight at bats was Greg LaRocca for Orix on April 10, 2009 vs Lotte.  The last Lotte player to hit three homers in one game was Julio Franco on May 8, 1998 vs Nippon Ham; the last Lotte player to hit three homers in three consecutive at bats was Kiyoshi Hatsushiba on August 18, 1990 vs Orix.

The Marines announced that they will change the venue for their Ni-gun game against Nippon Ham on the 11th from Lotte Urawa to QVC Marine.  The game time has also changed from 13:00 to 11:00.  The Marines are concerned about a possible influx of fans since the Fighters are planning to start 1st round draft pick Shohei Otani.
