Beginning on the 18th, a baseball autographed by Babe Ruth and Jiro Kuji will be put on display at Nichiro Building in Hakodate every Thursday.

A team of US baseball players, including Babe Ruth, visited Japan to play a number of exhibition games in 1934.  There was a big fire in Hakodate earlier that year and a fishing company pushed to have one game played in the city as a sign of hope and recovery.

On November 8, the US team played the All Japan team and won, 5-2.  The ceremonial first pitch, thrown by a government official, was signed by captains from both teams -- Ruth from the US and Kuji from Japan.  The ball was later discovered in a wooden box by government official's eldest son.
