Yomiuri Giants

The offense set a new franchise record by extending their scoreless innings streak to thirty-two.  The streak finally ended when John Bowker hit a two-run homer in the 2nd of tonight's game against Yakult.  The CL record of fifty innings was set by Hiroshima in 2011.  The NPB record of fifty-nine was set by Daiei in 1953.

After starting the season with a seven-game winning streak (7-0-1), the Giants went 0-2-1 against the Hanshin Tigers.  For the first time in franchise history, the offense was shutout in three consecutive games during one series against the Tigers.  The only other time they were shutout in three straight games in one series was in 1960 (August 28-30 vs Taiyo).

Yakult Swallows

The Swallows announced today that Shohei Tateyama's right elbow surgery was completed without any known complications.  He will require about a year for a full recovery.

Ryo Hidaka had his left elbow examined at a hospital in Tatebayashi, Gunma on Thursday and diagnosed with a minor ligament injury.  He will probably be shut down for about a month.

Hiroshima Carp

Brad Eldred and Fred Lewis may be running out of time.

As of Thursday: Eldred is 10-for-43 and 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position; Lewis is 9-for-44 and 1-for-18 with runners in scoring position.

Hanshin Tigers

Randy Messenger kept the streak alive...  Hanshin pitchers set a new franchise record tonight with their fourth straight shutout.  Their forty-one consecutive scoreless innings is also good for a second place tie in franchise history.

Ikusei player Fumihito Haraguchi took a pitched ball off his left wrist during situational batting practice on Thursday.  The Tigers announced today that he was examined at a hospital in Osaka and diagnosed with a fracture in his left ulna.
