Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito could make it back to the active roster some time in July.  This is assuming he begins tossing full-fledged bullpen sessions in May and is able to pitch in rehab games in June.

1st round draft pick Shohei Otani hit 181 baseballs during soft-toss batting practice on Thursday.  He also worked on his bunts against a pitching machine and took a full swing with the last pitch he saw.

Otani will likely be allowed to begin pitching practice some time around the 29th.  Even if he manages to make his way back to regular workouts as a position player, there is currently no plan to rush his return as a pitcher.

Otani started taking batting practice against a pitching machine today (mostly slow pitches).

If Otani plays in his first rehab Ni-gun game as a position player on the 23rd (vs Seibu at Seibu 2 Stadium), he will likely get two plate appearances as the right fielder.  During a game of outdoor catch on Thursday, he threw the ball eighty times (twenty were change-ups).

Rakuten Eagles

The Eagles became the first NPB team to teach a course in Sports Management at a national university -- about 350 students attended a lecture taught by team vice president Atsushi Ikeda at Tohoku University on Thursday.
