For one day only: if a player hits the SECOM sign in right-center at Tokyo Dome on May 5, they will get an extra 2.55 million yen in prizes (up from the usual one million yen).  Two new signs were also unveiled: both feature Shigeo Nagashima holding an open glove, but one contains a message congratulating Nagashima for his People's Honor Award (will be used between May 3 and 31) and the other with the standard "SECOM, shitemasuka?" phrase (will be used beginning on June 1).

Yakult Swallows

They also announced that Yuhei will have reconstructive surgery on his right knee (ACL) on May 10.

Position players did not get the day off on Monday because of the team's offensive slide.  And even though veteran and foreign players were excused, Shinya Miyamoto showed up and worked on his swing for about ninety minutes.

Hiroshima Carp

The Carp will look into other foreign options since Brad Eldred will be out six to eight weeks.  Nick Stavinoha (left knee) could be an internal option.

Hanshin Tigers

The Tigers are 60-127-5 at Nagoya Dome.  They have had three winning seasons (2005, 2007, 2008) and three seasons in which they recorded just one victory (1999, 2000, 2006).

The Tigers plan to keep 1st round draft pick Shintaro Fujinami at around 100 pitches per outing.  Pitching coach Kiyooki Nakanishi told reporters on Monday that Fujinami will not be allowed to throw any complete games in April or May.

Fujinami has a shot at making the All-Star ballot.  He could become the first Hanshin starter to make the All-Star team through fan votes since Kei Igawa in 2003.

Ninety-nine autographed photos commemorating Fujinami's first victory sold out in five minutes (15,750 yen a piece) when it was offered through the official team site on the 18th.  The photo has recently cropped up on auction sites at about four times the original price.
