1st round draft pick Shohei Otani took indoor batting practice against a live arm (sixty-seven pitches) on Wednesday for the first time since he sprained his right ankle.

The Fighters want Otani to focus on his pitching and may not, at this point in time, allow him to return to the active roster until he has pitched in at least two Ni-gun games.  By the time he returns to Ichi-gun, they want him pitching on six to seven days of rest and on the days of rest, playing in games as a position player.

Seibu Lions

Takeya Nakamura started taking some fielding practice on Tuesday: he had to field balls hit directly to him and then transfer and throw the ball into the net.

3rd round draft pick Yuji Kaneko turned twenty-three on Wednesday.

Softbank Hawks

6th round draft pick Hirofumi Yamanaka will most likely get Tadashi Settsu's next start on the 27th vs Lotte at QVC Marine.

Rakuten Eagles

Keiji Uezono's start was rained out on Wednesday.  He will not pitch until his next turn in the rotation, which will most likely be on the 29th against Seibu.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Tsutomu Ito told reporters that he called the team's first emergency meeting of the year after Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Seibu Lions because he felt players were starting to lose focus.

Orix Buffaloes

Alessandro Maestri will most likely be used as a temporary reliever -- he was supposed to start today's game against Rakuten, but Tomoyuki Kaida will get the start (pushed back a day from Wednesday because of rain) with Maestri moving to the bullpen.

This also helps the Buffaloes because reliever Tatsuya Sato will sidelined for at least ten days (taken off active roster on Wednesday) with lower back pain.
