Nippon Ham Fighters

There is a good chance 1st round draft pick Shohei Otani will be able to return the active roster in time for the Seibu series that begins on the 4th at Seibu Dome.

Otani threw fifty-two pitches in the bullpen on Tuesday (fastballs and curves).  He then took forty swings during batting practice (hit one over the fence) using a heavy training bat and grounded out to third in a pinch-hit at bat in the 7th inning of a Ni-gun game against Lotte.

Otani is scheduled to toss a bullpen session on the 3rd before pitching in a Ni-gun game against Yomiuri at Giants Stadium on either the 7th or 8th.

Otani played in a Ni-gun game against Lotte today.  He started in right and batted third.  He went 1-for-3: strikeout swinging, strikeout swinging, double to left.  He was removed from the game on defense in the 7th.

Rakuten Eagles

Scouts from the Yankees, Rangers, and Orioles will be at tonight's game against Nippon Ham at Kleenex Stadium.  Their focus of attention will likely be starter Masahiro Tanaka.

A total seven MLB teams have already checked Tanaka out -- does not include the Orioles, since tonight's game will be their first look.

Chiba Lotte Marines

If Yuji Nishino continues to pitch well, the Marines may release a Nishino passcase (a case for train passes since he travels by train).

Orix Buffaloes

1st round draft pick Takahiro Matsuba will start/appear in the first Ichi-gun game of his career tonight.  If he wins the game, he will be the first rookie pitcher to do so since Tsutomu Sakai in 1989.
