Chunichi Dragons

Masahiro Araki got the start in right on Sunday.  It was the first time he spent time in the outfield since he played center in a game against Hanshin on July 14, 2006 and the first time he played right since a game against Yokohama on September 1, 2001.

Fujinami has pitched in twelve games at Koshien (nine while in high school) and has yet to suffer a loss (before yesterday's no decision, he had nine victories in nine high school games and two victories in two Ichi-gun games).  The runs he allowed in the 5th inning on Sunday against Yakult were his first in eighteen innings at Koshien since turning pro and thirty-six innings at Koshien going back to high school.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Norihiro Nakamura joined Koji Yamamoto (1984) and Michihiro Ogasawara (2011) as the only players in NPB history to record their 2,000th career hits on Children's Day (May 5).

May 5 is now also the day when the most number of players have reached the 2,000-hit milestone.  Days with two players include: July 5 (Masahiro Doi in 1977 and Kazuyoshi Tatsunami in 2003); July 21 (Kihachi Enomoto in 1968 and Katsuo Ozuki in 1981); September 1 (Yutaka Fukumoto in 1983 and Tomonori Maeda in 2007); and September 6 (Shinichi Eto in 1975 and Norihiro Komada in 2000).

The Bay Stars are just the second team in NPB history to field two players that recorded 2,000 hits in the same season (Nakamura and Alex Ramirez).  The other was Nankai in 1987 (Hideji Kato and Hiromitsu Kadota).
