1st round draft pick Shohei Otani hit two doubles on Thursday.  The last rookie out of high school to record two extra base hits in a game was Ginjiro Sumitani (Seibu) on March 29, 2006 (two home runs).  The last rookie out of high school in franchise history was Isao Harimoto on August 26, 1959 (two doubles).

Otani is scheduled to pitch in Ni-gun games against Lotte on the 17th and Yokohama on the 24th.  If his outings go well, he could make his Ichi-gun pitching debut on the 31st against Chunichi at Sapporo Dome.

Orix Buffaloes

Another pitcher was tossed after throwing a dangerous pitch to Takayoshi Kawabata on Thursday.  It was the second time this season a pitcher was ejected from a game after throwing a dangerous pitch to Kawabata.  That made Kawabata the first batter to have two dangerous pitches thrown to him in the same season since Akihiro Yano (Hanshin) in 2005.
