Hirokazu Sawamura may once again be on the verge of losing his spot in the starting rotation -- if he has another bad outing, he may end up the odd man out when they move to a four-man rotation for the second half of June (between June 21 and 30, they play just eight games and no more than three games in a row).

Shoki Kasahara could also be given a shot as a starter.

Chunichi Dragons

Morimichi Takagi told reporters today that he cannot afford to bench Hirokazu Ibata and Masahiro Araki at the same time.  He is currently thinking about using Naomichi Donoue over Araki on at second on Friday and will most likely leave Ibata at short.

"It depends on what I want to do.  If I were to remove [Ibata and Araki], I think Naomichi would start at short and [Kyohei] Iwasaki at second.  But [Ibata and Araki] are not the Dragons Ara-Iba, but rather the CL's Ara-Iba.  It is not possible to remove both at the same time. Plus, Ibata is starting to come around," said Takagi.

Takagi could end up using Takeshi Yamasaki in the starting line-up for their two games against Rakuten at Kleenex Stadium (June 2-3).

The Dragons became the first team in the NPB to lose thirty games this season on Wednesday.  The last time they were the first to thirty losses in the CL was 1995 (fifth place finish) and the first to thirty in the NPB was in 1980 (last place finish).

Takagi was the manager in 1995.  He stepped away from the team on June 2 because of a 13-26-0 start.

Yakult Swallows

Orlando Roman was taken off the active roster today to make room for Chris Leroux.  Leroux will most likely make his Ichi-gun debut on June 5 against Rakuten.

"[Roman] held the opposition to one run [on Wednesday] despite getting hit.  He did a good job there.  We just do not have the space on the roster.  A very unfortunate result," said Junji Ogawa.

Hiroshima Carp
