Randy Messenger likes pitching at Kyocera Dome because the mounds are packed tighter.

Yutaka Wada spent about an hour working with Yamato on his hitting.  Yamato has been struggling at the plate during Inter-league play: in twelve games he is 8-for-47 with a slash line of .170/.250/.170.  Incidentally, while his BABIP for the season is .255, it is .160 during Inter-league play.

The Tigers may let 1st round draft pick Shintaro Fujinami throw more and pitch deeper into games.  His next start will come against Softabank at YafuOku Dome on June 2.  Since the DH-rule will be in effect, there will be no need to replace him for a better bat later in the game and he will also have more time to rest in between innings.

Fujinami's highs up to this point: pitches - 105 (once) ; innings - 7th (three times).

This does not mean the Tigers will allow Fujinami to throw an excessive amount over 100 pitches.  It does, however, mean that there may be games in which he is allowed to pass the 100 pitch mark.

Fujinami on pitching in a game with the DH-rule:

I will not be pulled out of the game because of the batting order, so I want to make sure I do well by that. ... In some ways, this is a new experience. It means one additional position player [in the line-up].  The approach to pitching can change based on whether or not you can count on an out."

Hiroki Uemoto (left ankle) could return to action in mid-June -- he has already joined Ni-gun workouts and has been taking batting practice and running dashes.  A healthy Uemoto would give the team a lot more options.

Team owner Shinya Sakai indicated to reporters on Thursday that they are open to making other moves if necessary.

"I am not thinking [we need to make any additional moves] but if the GM says we do, then we will have to consider it.  I do not think we have closed the lid to it completely.  Am I happy with the team right now?  There would be no end if I could nit-pick and it would not make any sense for someone like me that is away from the action to comment," said Sakai.
