At around 6:40pm on Tuesday, a seventeen-year-old Aomori Tsuruta High School student was struck on the right side of the head by a batted ball during indoor practices. He was rushed to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a fracture in his skull.
According to reports, the high school team was taking batting practice at three locations under the guidance of two teachers. The seventeen-year-old was retrieving baseballs and was bent over to pick one up when his head popped out from behind a screen and was struck by a batted ball.
The school reportedly follows general safety guidelines, like placing L-screen nets in front of pitchers and requiring all players to wearing helmets during batting practice. However, at the time of the incident, the student had apparently removed his helmet because it was too hot.
