by on Jun.13, 2013 @ 9:24 pm, under NPB

With the Chunichi Dragons down 3-2 in the top of the 9th against the Seibu Lions and runners on first and second and one out, Motonobu Tanishige stepped up to the plate as a pinch-hitter for Naomichi Donoue.  On the third pitch of his at bat, Tanishige hit a 1-1 fastball off Dennis Sarfate to center to tie the game at three and plate the 1,000th RBI of his career.

Tanishige is the fortieth player in NPB history to reach the 1,000 RBI milestone.  At forty-two years and five months, he is the oldest player to reach the milestone.  The previous record of forty years and nine months was set by Takeshi Yamasaki in 2009.  The 1,000 RBIs in 2,824 games also broke the franchise record of 2,398 games, set by Kazuyoshi Tatsunami in 2007.

Tanishige recorded the first RBI of his career off Chikafusa Ikeda on May 21, 1989.
