Yomiuri Giants

Hirokazu Sawamura recorded his third shutout in as many years on Thursday -- against Chunichi on October 14, 2010; against Yokohama on April 14, 2012; and against Orix on June 13, 2013.  He joined Tsuneo Horiuchi, Suguru Egawa, and Koji Uehara as the only pitchers in franchise history to record at least one shutout in each of their first three seasons.

Sawamura also joined Hisanori Takahashi (2005), Tetsuya Utsumi (2008, 2011), and Toshiya Sugiuchi (2012) as the only Yomiuri pitchers to record a shutout during Inter-league play.

Chunichi Dragons

Hirokazu Ibata stayed back for extra batting practice at QVC Marine today.  He started out barefoot while taking batting practice.  Partway through, he removed his uniforms pants and ultimately ended up stripping down to his black sliding pants.  The session was, of course, closed off to the media.

"I stripped down [to my sliding pants] because it was hot like a sauna.  I really wanted to take everything off, but that could have ended horribly if someone was able to take a picture," said Ibata.

Hiroshima Carp

Nick Stavinoha was taken off the active roster due to poor performance.  Fred Lewis will likely be called up.

Hankyu Hanshin Holdings held a stockholder's meeting in Osaka today.  Unlike last year, no one complained of the team's performance or direction.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Kiyoshi Nakahata had a chance to watch Tim Corcoran toss a bullpen session before today's game against Lotte.

"Two-seamer, four-seamer, curve, slider, sinker...  [Corcoran] threw all his pitches.  He looked good," said Nakahata.  "He made me think.  In a good way.  The pitches he threw were persuasive.  I will not tell you what I mean by that though!"

Pitching coach Yui Tomori added, "He has a good slide step and each of his pitches are solid.  I could see that he was trying to keep his pitches down.  He made a good impression."
