If 1st round draft pick Shohei Otani continues to hit well, Hideki Kuriyama may give him another opportunity to pitch and hit by taking the DH away.

The Seibu Lions have taken the DH away four times in the past: Hirohisa Matsunuma (1987), Kimiyasu Kudo (1990), Hisanobu Watanabe (1992), Fumiya Nishiguchi (1998).

Realistically speaking, the only way Kuriyama might allow Otani to hit in games in which he starts is if the rookie proves he can hit as well as their current group of designated hitters and shows that he can pitch deep into games.  Otherwise, the move makes little sense.

Softbank Hawks

Nao Higashihama is scheduled to pitch in a Ni-gun against Hanshin on either the 25th or 26th.  He will most likely pitch about two innings in relief.
