Yoshihiro Iwamoto, former professional baseball player and Oharu town mayor, was given a breath test on the morning of the 13th after an officer suspected he was drinking (he reportedly smelled of alcohol). He was ticketed after his test revealed his BAC to be over 0.25mg/l. On Friday, Iwamoto submitted his resignation to Oharu town council chairman Shigetaka Shimokata. The matter was unanimously approved during a town council meeting. His resignation is set for July 2.
Iwamoto was drafted by Hankyu in the 5th round of the 1981 draft. He spent five years in the Hankyu organization before trade moved him to Chunichi. He retired in 1990 and spent a few years as a coach in the Chunichi organization. He got involved in politics in 2003 and became town mayor of Oharu in May 2010. He was also involved in a drunk driving accident in July 2008.
