Chunichi Dragons

Morimichi Takagi is thinking about using Shinji Tajima as a starter.  Tajima was given a Ni-gun start against Orix on the 25th and tossed five shutout innings.  The reliever was given the start in order to guarantee him innings, but his success caught Takagi's eye and may have earned him an Ichi-gun start on July 2 (vs Hiroshima at Toyohashi).

Takehiko Tsuji is a candidate to get an Ichi-gun start on July 4 (vs Hiroshima at Nagoya Dome).

It should be noted that the Dragons are currently a bit short on starters, especially with Kazuki Yoshimi and Daniel Cabrera hurt (long term) and now Brad Bergesen questionable (hangnail infection, short term).

Hanshin Tigers

Takashi Toritani turned thirty-two on Wednesday.  He has played in 1,243 consecutive games since September 9, 2004.  That is three games away from Tokuji Iida in fourth place on the all-time list and seven games away from Hideki Matsui in third.

Akihito Fujii did not participate in position player practices on Wednesday and instead spent time working with pitchers in the bullpen.  It was the second day in a row that he did not taking batting practice.  Nothing is apparently wrong with Fujii -- he may have just been taking things a little easy.

Takumi Akiyama was scheduled to start an Ichi-gun game against Hiroshima on the 29th, but the rain out on Wednesday washed the opportunity away.  He is now scheduled to get a Ni-gun start during a Hiroshima series that begins on the 28th.
