Sponichi and Sanspo have posted portions of Hideki Matsui's chat with the media after tossing batting practice at Staten Island on Saturday.

First Sponichi:

Your skin is very white.

I take pride in that.

How did you come about this opportunity to toss batting practice?

I spoke to the GM about a number of things in the spring and they were checking to see if there was something I could do.  I told them I could not do anything on a full-time basis, but might be able to toss some BP at one of the facilities close to me.  They said that would be great.

Any chances you might join the organization?

It is nothing like that.  I am just here to help.  Also to shape-up.  That is all.

Are you satisfied with how you threw the ball?

If they say my pitches were easy to hit, then that is fine.  I am not really sure how to grade myself.

Have you been working out?

Not really.  I have a tendency to gain weight and that worries me.

How is your weight since your press conference last year?

I was at my max weight back then.

Did you know anyone on the team?

I did some rehab here a while back so there were some people on the staff I recognized.

Do you feel any different after interacting with all these young players?

Not really.  I am no longer thinking like a player.  I am 100% on the side of support.  I want to see them have good years and move up to the next level.

Now Sanspo:

Brings back memories, having [the media] around like this.

What was it like out there?

I am thinking about this over the long-term.  Nothing right away, I am not thinking about doing something right now.

Were you satisfied with your pitches?

You should ask them.  If they say my pitches were easy to hit, then that is good.

You threw 122 pitches.

I was not throwing at full strength so no problem.

What about hitting grounders?

I have never hit grounders, so I do not think I can do that.  I am not a coach.  I am just here to help.

Are you trying to give back to the team that supported you?

You are taking this too seriously.  This is just me helping.  I just want to have a good workout with the younger players and if I can avoid getting fat in the process, great.

Did you do anything to prepare?

I played some light catch near my house yesterday.  That is basically it.

How often do you exercise?

I am not doing anything right now.  Really.  I tend to get fat so I am worried about that.

It seems that Matsuzaka is struggling in minor leagues…it doesn t seem very good for a come back to majors. Is he still plagues by previous injuries?
