The latest, from ESPN.com's Jeff Seidel:
Darvish returned to Texas to be checked out by Dr. Keith Meister on Thursday, and assistant general manager Thad Levine said the exam was "totally normal," and no MRI or any scans were needed. Darvish was placed on the DL, retroactive to Sunday, with a right trapezius strain and is eligible to come off it July 22, when the Rangers start a four-game series against the Yankees.
"[This was] consistent with Darvish [thought] that it was, probably a little bit of arm fatigue," Levine said before Thursday's game with the Orioles, which Darvish had been scheduled to start. "He's going to come back to Detroit [where the Rangers play next], start back on his throwing programs with the expectation to get back on the rotation coming out of the break. It was as good a news as we could have gotten."
An American League All-Star, Darvish will head to New York for Tuesday's game -- he just won't play.
