The Central and Pacific Leagues are planning to hold special board of director meetings later this month -- the PL on the 24th and the CL on the 26th. The leagues will discuss guidelines on how future NPB commissioners will be selected. Owners decided on Wednesday to have the leagues and twelve teams work on an outline that will later be discussed and potentially finalized during the next owners meeting in late-September.
The owners, teams, and leagues are in somewhat of a rush to create a working process for selecting commissioners since the future of current NPB commissioner Ryozo Kato is up in the air. For the time being, the job is his, but if the third-party panel investigating the standard baseball finds him at fault for the unannounced changes, he could find himself in a position where he has to step down. In that case, the NPB will need to find a new replacement. But even if the panel does not find Kato at fault, the league will still need to have a guideline in place for when his term ends in June 2014.
