Yutaka Wada feels Tsuyoshi Nishioka was the first-half MVP for the Tigers.

"We got this far because everyone chipped in.  While it is difficult naming just one player, the addition of Nishioka did brighten the team atmosphere.  He has been a breath of fresh air.  Nishioka's positives have been soaked up by the team," said Wada.

Matt Murton was awarded the Sankei Sports' Hanshin Gekirei Series MVP.  The Hanshin Gekirei Series MVP is given to players that put in a good performance during a set number of games at Koshien (in this case, ten games between June 6 and July 14).  Murton made a lasting impression by blasting two walk-off home runs during the series.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Alex Ramirez was taken off the active roster today -- the decision was made after Ramirez spoke to GM Shigeru Takada before Wednesday's game against Yakult.

"I want to do what I can while maintaining a positive outlook.  I appreciate what team owner Makoto Haruta, team president Jun Ikeda, and GM Takada [have done for me] and I am hoping for a bright future for DeNA," said Ramirez.

Sponichi notes that other teams might be interested in dealing for Ramirez before the deadline later this month.
