[7/19/2013] Mazda All-Star Game 2013 News and Notes (morning update)

All-Star news and notes from July 19 (morning update):

  • Takashi Toritani is scheduled to start Saturday's game at second base with Hayato Sakamoto at short.  Source: Sanspo 7/19/2013
  • Tomoyuki Sugano is looking forward to the opportunity of asking Kenta Maeda for advice.  He is scheduled to start Game 2 and will most likely pitch three innings.  Source: Source 7/19/2013Sponichi 7/19/2013

  • Shintaro Fujinami wants to absorb as much information as he can from other players and plans to proactively seek advice, both from pitchers and hitters.  He is especially interested in learning about how to improve his curve.Source: Sanspo 7/19/2013
  • Senichi Hoshino on Tanaka participating in the All-Star Series: "I want him to throw at sixty percent. ... The fans have not seen him get lit up this year, so maybe that would be good to show.  That could be considered a service for the fans too."  Source: Sports Hochi 7/19/2013
  • Tanaka told reporters he does not plan on throwing a lot of fastballs and will turn to his off-speed pitches.  "My body is pretty tired.  Doing my absolute best might be a little difficult.  But I will do what I can within reason. ... Kuji [Fujikawa] said he was going to throw all fastballs and did.  I cannot do such a thing.  That is something only Kyuji-san can do. ... I will throw a lot of off-speed pitches.  I will break my body [if I throw nothing but fastballs].  I also do not have that kind of ability."  Source: Daily Sports 7/19/2013

  • Daisuke Miura is planning to throw an 80km/h slow curve.  "I am making an announcement.  I will throw a slow pitch.  My goal is 80km/h. ... Throwing a strike with that pitch is fairly difficult.  But I have been practicing. ...
